I encountered an error on my eBike build which shows on the screen as “ERROR 02”, it turns out this was a connector issue.
Looking this up only yields lots of the non-colored version’s manual which didn’t really help with the situation (I’m still looking for the colored screen’s manual)
Update: I’ve acquired a 80C-C manual, and the error shows as a “communication failure”.
Resolution
Look carefully, does your 1to4/1to5 connector look like it’s not going in fully (it might feel like it is, but is it really)?
- Clean the female side of the 9-pin connector to the controller
- If you’re not too careful or forcefully insert the (what I assume is a Julet) connector to the controller, you may have bent or damaged the connector a bit
- This might result in some plastic in it.
- You can try to clear this with a sewing needle (has to be tiny), blowing some air through it, or tapping against the table
- There might be some damaged plastic where the plastic tab that aligns the connector pushed in if you forced it in, clear those bits out.
- Double check the male side of the connector to make sure the pins are straight (look carefully!)
- This is what prevented my cable from inserting all the way, it might look okay but it might be bent ever so slightly such that it prevents the cable from inserting all the way
- EVEN IF THE SCREEN AND EVER OTHER ITEM WORK!
- My screen, controls, brakes seemed to all be working, but this slightly bent pin created the dreaded error :/
