I recently (less than a year ago) purchased a Typhur InstaWhisk from Amazon, and it worked great but less than a year later (I’m writing this at 10 months, but this broke over 2 months ago) it is now broken and won’t turn off.
I recently came back to it and decided to do crack it open to see what broke- turns out there’s a tiny piece of plastic inside between the button and potentiometer (and the spring mechanism) that broke causing mine to stay stuck on.
Here are some pictures.
Among the inventory of parts:
- SYO 18650 1500mAh 3.7V 5.55Wh Battery
- Unknown motor
- Mainboard for driving the motor
- Top case for button with Typhur logo
- Bottom case for charging port with regulatory declarations
Self-repairability notes (my own ratings):
Pros:
- Motor is not soldered
- Battery is not soldered
- Potentiometer is potentially replaceable
- Found some sliding potentiometers on Aliexpress, at ~$4/lot (1 lot = 4 pcs), see below, but didn’t bother considering how fragile it is and needing to open it again if it breaks again…
Cons:
- Fragile potentiometer
- Soldered mainboard take seffort to take apart
- Clipped on, and soldered, so you gotta pry while desoldering from USB-C charging board.
- Battery is glued in
- It was very hard to pry apart
Wishes:
- Replaceable battery door instead of stuck together and glued together.
- Screws instead of clips holding the whisk together.
